Mike Feulner's stroke recovery fund

On May 1, the life Mike Feulner knew changed forever, suffering the first of two strokes that greatly impaired many basic physical abilities we all take for granted. On behalf of Mike, we, his family, are humbly asking for your help.

Two weeks prior to his strokes Mike had moved from NYC to Las Vegas to take a job in the restaurant industry working for an Iron Chef.  It was an exciting time that quickly took a tragic turn.  On May 1st he checked out of the hotel he was using as a temporary residence and got the keys to his new home.  He was ready to finally get settled in his new place; unfortunately, he never got the chance to live there.  While at work that same day he knew something was wrong.  He began to feel sick. He wanted to get some rest so he left work and went back to the hotel because it was close by. Mike quickly realized that he did not need rest, this situation was serious.  He recognized the symptoms. Mike was having a stroke; luckily, he was able to call 9-1-1 and was taken to a hospital.

Mike’s family immediately flew to Las Vegas to be by his side.  It was quickly determined that in order to save his life, he needed to be moved back to NYC via a Medical ICU Jet.  It took 5 days to facilitate the move.  During that waiting period Mike suffered a second stroke. He suffered deficiencies on his right side which then spread to include his left side, lost the ability to stand or walk, lost the ability to see clearly and lost the ability to swallow.  When Mike finally made it to NYC he was told that he was also suffering from pneumonia.

After 2 weeks at the NYC hospital, Mike was finally moved to a rehabilitation center where he is getting specialized PT, OT and speech therapy every day.  He has to learn to stand and walk again, to control his fine motor skills in his hand, to see clearly and to swallow again.  A feeding PEG tube was inserted into his stomach so he can be tube fed to get nutrition and medications.

Mike’s journey will be long and difficult.  His determination and drive is evident as he faces this challenge. If all goes according to plan, Mike will be discharged from rehab in mid-June. From there he will live with family and continue intensive outpatient therapy for many months to come.

Mike is not able to work as he tries to regain his function and ultimately his life.  Please consider helping Mike. The cost of care and all the services and assistance – including a wheelchair ramp - Mike needs are not all covered by insurance. We humbly request your financial assistance with this GoFundMe campaign to help Michael cover a portion of these costs. Thank you in advance for your help.
