My sister Michelle is my big sister and means the world to me, to her family-especially her kids, and everyone else she knows - she'd give the shirt off her back to help anyone out--here is her story and why she needs all OUR help....
Her story begins when she found out years ago, after suffering excrutiating headaches, that she had Chiari Malformation which is a condition in which her brain tissue extends into her spinal canal. My sister's doctor's decided she needed surgery, a brief basic description of her surgeries - the most common surgery for Chiari malformation, called posterior fossa decompression, her surgeon removed a small section of her bone in the back of her skull, hoping to relieve pressure by giving her brain more room. In her case, the covering of her brain, called the dura mater, was opened., she had a patch put in place to enlarge the covering and provide more room for her brain. This patch was blood harvested from another part of her body. Her doctor's also removed a small portion of her spinal column (2 vertabrae I believe) to relieve the pressure and allow more space for her spinal cord.
Michelle's first surgery happened about 9/10 years ago, and she just recently found out, after suffering headaches once again, dizzy and shaking spells, that her spinal fluid had started leaking. It had broken through her patch and started flowing into her blood stream.
They immediately rescheduled her surgery, which was Nov 12, 2015. Her surgery went ok, but was longer than normal as they had some complications - she came home for two days, then had to go right back into the hospital due to her incision actual leaking spinal fluid! They have inserted a lumbar drain to actually drain off her spinal fluid every hour and with that comes even more excruciating pain for her. She can't sit up and can't walk because of the pain. They are trying to keep fluid off the area so it can heal faster and her doctor said the worst is still yet to come.
It looks as if she will be spending Thanksgiving there and we are praying not Christmas also. This is the reason she needs our help. My sister will be out of work longer than expected and her husband Paul, who works for himself, is also missing time because understandably he wants to be at the hospital regularly to be with Michelle.
They need help towards keeping their bills current, and with everyday living expenses, not to mention surmounting hospital bills. Whether it be donating money for meals, donating a few dollars to help with their expenses, (or even for gas to and from the hospital which is 50 miles one way), anything would be extremely appreciated. Neither one has asked for this help which makes them the most deserving (plus theyre both stubborn as hell). :)
I want to raise this money for my sister before Christmas, because she needs to concentrate on getting better and not stressing over bills. etc....I would be so thankful and very appreciative of all of you whom do give her help - just for the main reason that when she does come home (hopefully before Christmas) that she can get herself on the mend and to heal like she needs to,
Anyone who knows my sister, knows that she will be trying to get back to work probably before she's actually allowed to, just for that basic reason to provide for and take care of her family. Please donate to her benefit so she can come home with peace of mind. Her family misses her greatly and needs for her to be well.
Thank you so very much,
Candy MacDonald-Finkbiner
