First and foremost, thank you so much for taking the time to read the below. This was not an easy message to write and one that Nicole wrote with a heavy heart following the passing of her mother Michelle McGann.
On August 2nd, 2023, after just turning 64 years old Michelle Renee McGann passed away due to complications associated with brain cancer. Just diagnosed on July 14th, 2023, Michelle and her family barely had a day to cope with the diagnosis before she had multiple seizures while driving that same weekend. She was life-flighted to Shadyside Hospital Neuro ICU two days later on July 16th. Michelle and her family then began the fight for her life. Michelle’s seizures did not stop until medically inducing a coma. With the help of her outstanding critical care physician Dr. Matthew Hensley and the brilliant nursing staff at Shadyside Hospital, Michelle was able to come out of the coma to spend her final days surrounded by family, her precious grandbabies, and friends saying goodbye.
Michelle was a true force. Loyal and a fighter by nature. She was a vibrant, outspoken, energetic and lively woman who brought fun and friendship to everyone she met. She simply lit up any room and in true “yinzer” fashion made conversation with everyone who crossed her path. She loved to celebrate life and made sure everyone felt special. Michelle was born and raised in Pittsburgh and was a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan. She made sure to never miss a Penguins or Steelers game. She was a housekeeper and considered her clients an extension of her family. She truly loved dedicating herself to others.
Michelle leaves behind her mom Kathleen who was her roommate, her children Michael, Nicole and Justin and three grandchildren Oliver, Evelyn and Sofia who were her “Happy Place”. She rarely missed a day seeing her babies and they love and will miss their “Mimi” so very much.
Please help in any way you can. All proceeds will go towards Michelle's unexpected expenses, funeral costs, and Family Hospice Services. The remaining funds will be donated to The Shadyside Hospital Foundation.
