Michael Prescott's Fight For Life
Donation protected
Please spare a few moments of your time and read a story of courage and perserverance.
My father, Michael Prescott, is the strongest man I have ever met. He is a loving husband and the most supportive father. He has overcome more than his fair share of obstacles in life. He was born with a rare genetic disease called Werner's Syndrome which causes the body to age prematurely(adult onset Progeria). This debilitating disease resulted in my father's grandmother passing at the age of 42 and his mother at just 31. Throughout his adult life he has been a recipient of a heart transplant and kidney transplant. He has had his left leg amputated below the knee and his left pinky amputated. He fought with type 2 diabetes for over 18 years. And now he has another battle to fight... in the form of stage 4 throat cancer with his lymph nodes at a stage 2 or 3.
When my father was healthy he worked as a civil engineer first for KYTC(Kentucky Transportation Cabinet), next for a few private firms, and finally for TDOT(Tennessee Department of Transportation). He was an incredibly hard worker for 15 years but was forced to retire due to medical issues at the age of 38. He is now 52, and still fighting hard. He currently has a tracheostomy and is awaiting surgery to hopefully remove the cancer from his throat. The surgery is a total laryngectomy which involves the removal of both his lymph nodes, and his larynx(voice box). They will also have to take some muscle and tissue from his chest to reconstruct a large portion of his throat.
This surgery, among everything else can cause a massive physical, mental, and financial toll on my father and my mother & I, as the direct family. My parents have been together for 30 years and married for 23. My mother has been by my father's side through thick and thin, & even now stays at home to help and offer her unconditional love and support. I do as much as I possibly can around the house and to help facilitate living for my father. He is my biggest inspiration and role model to never give up.
Our hopes are to spread awareness of Werner's Syndrome and to help my father achieve a few items on his bucket list. Some donations are also being set aside for funeral expenses per my father's request. However, he plans to fight until the very end and do whatever it takes to come out on top of this, just like everything in his past!

Even if you cannot or do not wish to donate today PLEASE share this post with your friends and family in effort to spread awareness of Werner's Syndrome.
Thank you so very much,
