Michael's Medical Fund

Donation protected
On the morning of February 27, our family member, Michael Culbertson, was involved in a horrific car accident.  He was thrown from the car and it landed on his legs.  According to the paramedics and ER doctors, they felt there was little hope of saving his life.  But Michael has always been strong.  Although he has several life threatening injuries and is still on a ventilator, he is finally making progress.  If all goes well, he will be out of the ICU in a month.  He has hardware to hold his broken hip in place, rods in the top and bottom of his left leg, and plates in his ankle.  Sadly, his right leg had to be amputated above the knee.  At present, there is no skin covering the amputated leg but it will be grafted at a later date.  Michael’s rehabilitation will last about a year.  We are thankful that Michael has good insurance, but we expect there will be expenses not covered.  We love Michael and want him to get the best possible rehabilitation, even if this is in another state.  We are a family of many runners.  We want Michael to get a prosthetic leg for running (in addition to the one he will get for walking) in hopes we can run together one day.  We realize this will be very expensive.  We also want him to have whatever devices that are available to him to be as mobile and independent as possible.  Of course, more than anything, we ask for prayers for Michael as he faces tremendous emotional and physical challenges in this coming year.  We pray Michael can stay motivated and see the purpose God has for his life.  Carol has been resistant to the idea of setting up this fundraiser for Michael; however, the immediate family convinced her she owed it to those family and friends that are desperate to help in any way possible, above and beyond the phenomenal emotional support that all have provided to this point in Michaels recovery.  Our goal is to take any potential financial burden away from Carol and Michael. This initiative is all about the love we share for those two and only one of many avenues we will have in the coming months to help them restore their lives to normalcy.
