Put Autism & disABlLITIES to work!
I left behind my hometown, friends and family and a career at DuPont Corporation and moved to Miami with my husband Javier and my two children; Marc who has just turned 13 years old and Gerard who is 5 years old.
We did it to give more opportunity to Marc that happens to have Autism and to found a business to employ Adults that like Marc have Autism or other developmental disabilities that are educated in bakery and pastry arts and are willing and ready to work.
Miami Is Kind Foundation, Inc. is a non for profit 501 (c)(3) and a permitted food manufacturer under the state of Florida that I founded to deploy my vision to employ persons with Autism /disABILITIES educated in bakery in pastry arts. We started our program 4 months ago and we are self sustainable thanks to a strong community support.
Our first product we bake are gluten free macaroons in various flavors that today we sell in farmers markets, limited retail like Joanna's Marketplace, at events and on line at our website. Our goal is to become the first wholesale industrial bakery for professionals with Autism/ DisABILITIES in South Florida.
We started with two bakers and doubled to 4 bakers.
Today we employ Lexus, Marcus, Catherine and Guillermo and we want to raise funds to employ 2 more bakers in 2016 and a total of 20 employees of the dozens we have in our waiting list by 2020.
The money raised will be used to buy equipment specifically a cookie depositor. The de Moya Fundation has already believed in us and have generously donated $5,700 for the cookie depositor contingent we find the funding for the delta: $17.000. This equipment is necessary to eliminate the challenge of shaping the macaroons by hand that causes carpel tunnel. The cookie depositor will allow us increase production as we can't keep up with demand while keeping our bakers save . The increased production and quality will determine the future of our business and allow us to sale our macaroons and other baked pastry products to enterprises that are showing interest on what we do and who we are.
We need the funds by mid February so that we can place the order of our cookies depositor asap, sustain current employees and hire two additional bakers within this year.
Employment opportunities for persons with Autism / disABILITIES look bleak. Companies seldom hire adults with Autism/ disABILITIES. I decided not to sit and wait for companies to change their hiring policies. Instead I have created the solution and demonstrated that it is sustainable. I believe that hard work determines who we are as individuals in society and that every person in the community should have the chance to excel and contribute regardless if the person has a disability or not.
I have two children, one has autism. My two children will have the opportunity to strive for independent living fulfilling their dreams and personal choices with their salaries.
In addition to bakers we will employ packers, warehouse operators, customer service reps and dispatchers with Autism/ disABILITIES that will work alongside typically developed employees for their full inclusion. We will employ 20 persons by 2020 and become the first wholesale industrial bakery in South Florida for proffessionals with Autism/ DisABILITIES.
By funding Miami Is Kind you will be keeping jobs for 4 persons and creating job opportunity for 2 more that happen to have Autism/ disABILITIES during this year; and at least a total of 20 persons by 2020. Thanks to your kindness and generosity those 6 persons first and a total of 20 persons later will have their dream of having a job and keeping a job come true.
Help me today keep giving jobs / independence to Catherine, Lexus, Guillermo, Marcus and two new hires that have Autism, disAbilities. I need a cookies machine to be successful at Miami Is Kind Foundation, Inc and inspire other companies to hire disABILITIES too!
In some years persons like our bakers... Catherine, Lexus, Guillermo, Marcus...will be considered the pioneers of a kinder community where Marc my eldest son with Autism and all our children with Autism / disABILITIES will be appreciated for their diverse and unique talents.
Everyone donating $30 or more and willing to facilitate their email and address will receive a 3units bag macarrons at their doorstep in appreciation of your kindness and generosity.
