here was her story from 6-9-2015 to 4-17-2022
Ashley Akins has been a warrior since birth. She has servived 3 heart surgeries plus added a pacemaker. Her heart contdition is very rare and every moment with our 6yr year is a mircle within itself. Her heart is working doubletime and causinf the battery of her pacemaker to drain, so Standford scheduled last Monday to have it replaced. The surgeons came to us after 2 1/2 hours of her being under that they had to stop the prodecure because her blood presure was dangerously too high, in best interest the decided to keep her under and do some more testing to makesure they didn't miss anything. Test came back that one of her arteries was pushing on her left lung and her artery was pinched, she wasn't getting full oxygen and her chambers to her heart were i distressed bacause one was getting to much blood flow and the other was just getting little, so on Monday once her BP went safely down the put a ballon on the low sided chamber to open it up for more blood flow. They also did a CT scan on her brain to make sure everthing was ok. They came to tell us that she had a stroke awhile ago. So I informed the doctors that her recovery on the last surgery was completely different than the one prior, one of her eyes can move on its own while her other eye was straight. So instead of runng a CT the docator at the time refered us to an eye docator, and there were no complications in there finding and her primary doc told her it was due to all the medications that were given at that time and stated a CT wasn't going to be done....The Stanford team decided to go back in and replace her battery on Weds. so Ashley had been under for 3 days when they took her back to the O.R. and they told us it should be 3-4 hour surgery. Ashley ran into complications and her surgery took 24hours and 15 mins, for 11 of those hours we were unaware that our daughter was bleeding out in her primary vein due scare tissue on previous surgeries and this tissue was very delicate so it took 12 hours for them to stop the bleeding. Her complications also were upper and lower chambers on her right side they connected incorreclty and she was born like this, so they had to reconstruct her chamber flapps in redirction and included the candycane shaped artery to be shifted this was the one pushing against her lung. Kidneys are not working due to being under for so long and they had to place her on dialysis, liver wasnt working but now it is because of dialysis and it might take awhile for her kidneys to kick in, her BP keeps is up and down, fever and almost got hyperthermia , she had a sore on her tailbone due to being on the surgery table that long. She has 4 draining tubes in her chest to get ride of air access blood, 4 blood transfusions during this surgery. They are slowly waking her up and winging her off some of the medications however her body isn't respong to it well. I am currently 1 of 3 caretakers for our mother who needs 24hour care and we are unable to work at this time because Ashley's mom and I are rotatiing 12 hour shifts to be with our daughter. So there is no source of income and there are also 2 other children that are Ashley's siblings that are being taken care off. We are having a financial hardship and her recovery could take up to 15-20 weeks estimated if everything goes well from here on out with her kidneys. The cost of our bills and traveling from San Jose to Stanford in 2 cars on a daily basis and gas prices have depleted our savings. Any donations regardless of amount, prayers and shares on social media would be greatly appricated. We will update Ashley's condition as often as we can.
Thank you,
Chris Akins
