We are seven youth leaders between the ages of 16 and 21. Together, we make up Melanin Uprising, a youth lead branch of Black Lives Matter DMV on a mission to create a safe, positive healing space for Black youth. In doing so, we hope to inspire a generation of strong, resilient, self-actualized leaders who advocate on behalf of themselves and their peers. 



In order to further this mission, we will be attending the Black Radical Tradition Convention in Philadelphia, PA on the weekend of January 8. We are asking for donations towards travel, lodging, and food during our stay. 

This trip is particularly important to our group for several reasons:

1. Some of us have never traveled outside of our hometowns. 
2. The knowledge that we gain at this convention will help broaden our perspectives so that we can better facilitate conversations with our peers. 
3. Such perspectives will help us combat institutional racism and the effects of white supremacy in the DMV area. 
4. We will be given the opportunity to meet with people who are organizing across the country.
