My WalkAide for Foot Drop
Donation protected
On May 25th, 2013 I suffered a massive stroke. I was 23. I lost the use of my right side . I couldn't speak, I still can't use my right arm, and I had to learn how to walk again. As a result of the stroke I have "foot drop" which prevents me from lifting the front of my foot when I walk . I've been wearing a brace called an AFO. It helps to keep my ankle and foot in the right position when I walk. While it helps stabilize my ankle and foot, I still can't walk normally and the brace is really big.
Because of the size my brace I'm limited in the types of shoes I can wear. It's nearly impossible to find shoes that fit my foot and my style.
My physical therapist recently suggested I try a device called WalkAide. It straps just below my knee and stimulates the muscles in my leg which causes me to raise my foot when I walk. It's so cool!! I feel like I'm finally walking normal again! Plus I can wear any kind of shoes I want! For the first time in three years I can wear flip-flips!! For me , it's life-changing!!
I have a two-week trial period and then I have the option to purchase the WalkAide but there is one challenge...the cost is $5,000 and it is not covered by my insurance.
I created this GoFundMe page to help me raise the money so that I can purchase a WalkAide and the supplies that go with it. 100% of the funds raised will be used for this purpose.
The past three years have been incredibly challenging for me. I've had many ups and downs. I've learned that I'm a lot stronger then I thought and that it's important to never give up!
Please know how much I appreciate your generosity and support!! Thank you so much!!
