About Theo Henderson
Theo Henderson is an altruistic soul, an advocate of the less fortunate, and the host of his podcast, “We The Unhoused." Having been unhoused for eight years, Theo has made it his mission to give a voice to anyone who is unhoused and share information, guidance, and resources he knows firsthand will be of help to those in need. Theo created "We The Unhoused" after losing his job and becoming burdened with medical expenses related to his diabetes and heart condition. As a diabetic, he needs to rest and regularly monitor his blood sugar, but hasn't received his medications in over a year, having lost them, along with his other belongings, during encampment sweeps. On top of all this, Theo's also had his life threatened on multiple occasions, been badly injured, harassed, and suffers from PTSD as a result.
In Theo's informative podcast (which he edits entirely on his phone), he aims to break down the stigma associated with the unhoused by educating listeners about the nuances within the community and providing insight from outreach service representatives surrounding the current crisis. Theo has traveled across LA county and California on his journey to support others and is on the move again to help as far and wide as possible but has never asked for the true financial help he needs...
How can we help?
In order to continue on his quest to give a voice to others, Theo needs more consistent financial support for his travel, medical, and podcast equipment. Consistent monthly donations via his PATREON (https://www.patreon.com/wetheunhoused) take care of some expenses, but he needs a more substantial amount to help sustain him so that he can continue his crucial work. By helping Theo, you are also helping the unhoused community.
Theo's Impact
“We the Unhoused,” not only serves as a platform for networking but has also created lasting change. Theo has raised funds for several "Power to the People" stations in California, which provide device charging, food, and necessities. He even runs one himself every Saturday in DTLA with "J-town Action & Solidarity.” Additionally, Theo's looking to continue raising enough funds for mobile wifi and tech. He's found housing for some listeners of his podcast and changed the mind of City Council member, Mike Bonin, regarding street sweep procedures. Bonin has planned a new procedure for cleaning sidewalks that will not destroy people’s belongings.
Thank you!
We understand not everyone may be in the position to donate at the moment and that is okay because there are so many ways to help Theo and the unhoused that are equally as meaningful. There is no judgment on which avenue works best for each individual. You never know what someone may be going through. "May we all meet again in The Light of Understanding" - Theo Henderson.
