Cancer Fight: Med Student & Veteran
Donation protected
My name is James and I am asking for your help to save my older brother's life.
His name is Tony. He is a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and is currently training to become a medical doctor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Tony was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer: Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT) in September 2016.
In 2015, he married his fiancé, who he dated for 7 years. The couple recently celebrated their first-year wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, Tony and his wife cannot afford their living expenses and possible medical costs (possibility of needing to go out of state for surgery) for this coming year.
I am writing to humbly ask for your help in giving him a second chance in life.
In 2004, he felt the need to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was deployed in 2006 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he provided security and faced dangerous situations, putting others’ lives before his own, while roads were built.
Returning from war, he attended University of California San Diego (UCSD) to fulfill his dreams of becoming a doctor. His determination paid off when he was accepted to University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2014.
My brother is the hardest working and compassionate person that I know. Tony's life is one of service and perseverance and I am asking for your generosity in helping him continue his story. Please consider your support as an investment, rather than a donation, in someone who has given so much to his family, friends, and country.
Fight with him, so that he can become a doctor and serve others still. Your kindness will contribute to a more empathetic and compassionate doctor who understands what it is to be on the receiving end of medical treatment.
On behalf of Tony and my family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful day!

Update: Dec 2017
Tony is doing ok and we’re still fundraising.
Please share this campaign.
We would again like to offer our family’s heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported Tony in this time of need. Also, to everyone who reached out to Tony, we appreciate your concern.
The long update:
is Tony is doing ok right now. We’re still fundraising because treatment has gone on much longer than we expected due to unforeseen circumstances. He is still on medical leave from his Medical School, so he is unable to support himself. Also, we have learned that the VA will not cover living expenses beyond two days for possible cancer surgery in Houston, Texas. The stay in Texas is estimated to last for 4-6 weeks.
He originally went through 11 rounds of chemotherapy from October 2016 to May 2017. During that time, some of the masses shrank to the point that they did not show up in scans. Unfortunately, this is not the end of the story.
Recently, the cancer has returned.
Tony’s chemo was stopped after the original 11 rounds of treatment to set up a surgical consultation. Usually, this only takes a week to establish. Instead, there were months of bureaucratic hurdles to get him to M.D. Anderson in Texas for a surgical consultation.
After these months without treatment, the cancer has returned. There are new cancerous masses in the liver and the cancer in his abdomen has also returned. Since this September, he has undergone an additional 2 rounds of the old treatment. Tony recently had a PET CT scan to figure out if the old chemo still works and it has unfortunately become resistant to the old treatment.
Tony is on a new chemo regimen and we’re hoping that it will work.
We're still fundraising so please share this campaign and we’ll update you all when we know more.
Warmest Regards,
James
