Our Robotics Team is Going To World!

Well, our dedicated and hard working Mechanical Mariners Team 12A and 12B did it!! They debut this year and both teams came out at the top, each winning a ticket to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Kentucky held April 29th-March 1st, 2018!! They worked hard and beat incredible odds and faced challenges that they never imagined. It has been an exciting journey for them, but it doesn’t stop here. We are looking for help financing their trip to the 2018 Vex IQ Robotics World Championships.

These two teams made up of fifth graders - team 12B six boys and team 12A four girls - are from Malcom Elementary School in Laguna Niguel. They have dedicated countless hours and collaborated as a team to design and create a robot to compete in the Vex IQ Ring Master Challenge. (https://www.vexrobotics.com/ vexiq/competition/vex-iq- challenge-overview)Their VEX competitions included team challenges, skills driving demonstration, autonomous programmed driving, and presentation of a STEM research project where the boys teamFocused on Military Rescue Robots and the girls team focused their efforts on the da Vinci Surgical system. Taking part in the competitions each team member had to learn to coordinate and contribute in new ways that help them develop as individuals and….have NEW types of fun!

Both team were competitive in every challenge they participated in and won the following top awards:

Boys team 12B:

*The Robot Skills Award at University California San Diego- Highest Points Individually (including programming) (Qualified for VEX Create US Open)
*The Excellence Award at Chatsworth- All-Around Champions (won ticket to State Championships)
*First Place in the Team Challenge at Anaheim- Highest Points with an Alliance (won 2nd ticket to State Championships)
*State Championships Driving Challenge at Fairplex Pomona - Third place (won ticket to World Championships)

Girls team 12A:

*The Excellence Award at University California San Diego (won ticket to State Championships)
* State Championship Amaze Award at Fairplex Pomona - (won ticket to World Championships)

With the recent team 12B Driving Challenge win and team 12A Amaze Award win at the California State Championships, our Mechanical Mariners teams have qualified to compete at VEX World Championships.  These students poured their heart and soul into this program. They stretched themselves and learned so much. They developed a passion for robotics and it will be exciting to see where it takes them.  Going to the World Championships would open their eyes to future possibilities and hopefully inspire them to keep their passion going toward college and STEM careers. We are looking for your support to help with the cost of travel, lodging, food, and replacement parts for our robot. We need to raise all the money for this opportunity so all team members are able to attend. We are trying to create an experience that our Mechanical Mariners team members will never forget. Will you please help these amazing kids get to the World Championships??

Thank you!
