I'd like to introduce you to an amazing warrior, McKay Austin Mortier, son of Justin & Jessica. Mac was born on December 15, 2015 at 11:48pm. He was 7lbs 3 oz and 20 3/4 inches long at birth.
Mac's birth story is quite traumatic. When Jessica's water broke at home, the umbilical cord became prolapsed which is very rare (0.002% of all births) and life threatening. McKay defied all odds and was born via emergency c-section just 9 minutes after arriving at Munson Hospital in Traverse City. He was transferred to the NICU at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids shortly after birth, and has remained there since. Due to the amount of time that Mac was without oxygen, his brain has suffered severe damage which affects all of his core basic functions. The doctors are helping to keep Mac comfortable as his time with us could be very short.
Justin and Jessica are truly amazing parents, and they have been such a strong and loving team through all of this. For those of you that know them, it will come as no surprise that they continue to focus on each wonderful moment they get to spend cuddling with McKay.
We are asking for your help to ease the financial burden that this tragedy has placed on Justin and Jessica. The NICU costs are around $10,000 per day, and insurance will not cover 100% of Mac's medical care. We're also asking for your help to support the next chapter of Mac's journey whether it be a continued stay in the NICU or to to provide the means for Justin & Jessica to bring him home.
God has blessed us with this amazing little man and we have placed our love and faith in him to guide his journey. We pray for his care team, we pray for his strength, we pray for Justin, Jessica, Madison & Emma.
