Mayra Arteaga, Hospice and Funeral Support

Our mom, Mayra Arteaga, was diagnosed with stage four renal cancer in August 2019. Despite all odds, our mom made the brave journey to relocate to Boston, MA to seek cancer treatment that was unavailable to her in Charlotte, NC. After a long, arduous 22 month battle against cancer, she has transitioned to at-home hospice care in Boston. As we prepare for the inevitable, we would like to ask for the financial support of family and friends to help us with hospice and funeral expenses. Her last wishes are to spend her last days in Massachusetts under the care of her medical team and with her family. She will be laid to rest in Charlotte.
A little on our mom…
Mayra Ivett Arteaga (nee Guevara Zavala) was born in El Salvador in 1972. At a young age, she fell in love with people’s stories, leading her to a career in journalism and communications. Growing up, we loved listening to her tell stories of the people she met through her line of work - not just because they were fascinating but because of the passion and love she used to tell every one of them. Her career led her to be acknowledged on various occasions by the Jose Marti Publishing Awards among other local distinctions.
Apart from excelling in her career, my mom did a fantastic job raising her three children. She was a single mother of 3 who gave us what she could during tough times but above all else, she gave us endless love. In 2017 she married the love of her life - our stepdad, John Rabon.
Throughout her entire 22 month journey our mom continued to fight and motivate others with her contagious enthusiasm and optimism for life.

Nuestra madre, Mayra Arteaga, fue diagnosticada con cáncer renal en etapa cuatro en agosto de 2019. A pesar de todo, nuestra madre hizo el valiente viaje para mudarse a Boston, MA para buscar un tratamiento contra el cáncer que no estaba disponible para ella en Charlotte, Carolina del Norte. Después de una larga y ardua batalla de 22 meses contra el cáncer, ha hecho la transición al cuidado de hospicio en el hogar en Boston. Mientras nos preparamos para lo inevitable, nos encantaría pedir el apoyo financiero de familiares y amigos para ayudarnos con los costos de cuidados paliativos y los gastos funerarios. Sus últimos deseos son pasar sus últimos días en Massachusetts bajo el cuidado de su equipo médico con su familia. Su final citio de descanso sera Charlotte.
Un poco sobre nuestra mamá ...
Mayra Ivett Arteaga (de soltera Guevara Zavala) nació en El Salvador en 1972. Desde muy joven se enamoró de las historias de las personas, lo que la llevó a una carrera en el periodismo y la comunicación. Al crecer, nos encantaba escucharla contar historias de las personas que conocía a través de su línea de trabajo, no solo porque eran fascinantes, sino por la pasión y el amor que solía contarles. Su trayectoria la llevó a ser reconocida en diversas ocasiones por los Premios Editoriales José Martí entre otras distinciones locales.
Además de sobresalir en su carrera, mi madre hizo un trabajo fantástico al criar a sus tres hijos. Ella era una madre soltera de 3 hijos que nos dio lo que pudo durante los tiempos difíciles pero, sobre todo, nos dio un amor infinito. En 2017 se casó con el amor de su vida: nuestro padrastro, John Rabon.
Durante todo su viaje de 22 meses, nuestra madre continuó luchando y motivando a los demás con su contagioso entusiasmo y optimismo por la vida.
