Maxine's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Early morning on January 19th our Mom, Maxine Share, was rushed to the hospital. She couldn’t walk or talk, and was violently ill. The doctors determined she had a brain bleed. She was immediately airlifted on life support in a coma, to another hospital for life-saving brain surgery.

Doctors told us to prepare for the worst. We prayed and cried. When they called us post-op to say she was alive and stable we breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Mom stayed in a medically induced coma over a week. It was the scariest time of our lives. We didn’t know if she would survive, or how the brain bleed would affect her functioning. Since then, she has had to learn how to breathe on her own, how to swallow, how to walk and talk again. Miraculously, mom has regained much of her cognitive abilities, humour and her motor functioning skills improve daily. Everyday she continues to fight and meet the medical milestones required for her release.

A blessing during her healing and recovery, is that her Husband Marty is able to visit her at the hospital every other day as per COVID regulations.

This afternoon, she undergoes another surgery--a craniotomy to replace the bone in her skull that was removed while her brain healed. Thankfully, Marty will be there as she awakes from today’s surgery.

Those of you that know Maxine well, know she is private, she never asks for help, and she goes above and beyond at work. As life would have it, this emergency took place just days after she resigned from Kerry’s Place where she worked as an Autism Consultant. She had just decided to branch off and create her own success through speaking events and through private educational advocacy sessions.

Doctor’s have begun to talk about what life may look like once Mom is released from the hospital. We know that she will have home care and nurses coming to support her. We also know her house will need major renovations to support accessibility and promote independence. We decided to start this GoFundMe now as A) Mom finally agreed and B) She recognizes she will need help from her community. All funds donated will go toward the therapies she will need, accessibility and travel costs. We hope Mom is reminded that the community she gives so much to, is there to help her in her time of need.

Thank you for your continued love, thoughts, prayers and support. It has meant so much to our family during this difficult time.
