Matthew Nowacki's Cancer Support Fund

Doação protegida
In November 2020, Matthew Nowacki received the news that his brain tumor had returned three years after treatment had successfully brought it into remission. In February 2021, he received the additional news that cancer developed in his thyroid. Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to help him cover his insurance and the treatment he needs.

Matthew is a video game designer. Rarely does one find someone so dedicated and in love with his craft. He pours himself completely into every project he touches, because to him, video games have the power to change the world. While he has had his share of struggles in life, you wouldn’t know that just by meeting him.

The first things you notice about Matthew are his smile and genuine, adventurous spirit. How he gives freely and generously what he can, which often comes in the form of simple, hearty laughter. He is universally regarded as an expert in both fantasy football and Pokémon card strategy. His presence is not only foundational in his church, but in all that he does.

This past year has been devastating for him.

In January 2020, Matthew’s sister was killed in a car accident. In April, as COVID-19 spread across the country, he was infected and spent six days in an ICU. The job market for his profession crashed, and he struggled in his effort to secure full-time employment. Due to a tax return filing error, Matthew didn’t receive his stimulus checks from the government. He’s still paying off $50,000 in hospital bills.

With the new developments in Matthew’s medical condition this year, he’s been struck with a whole new host of financial burdens. His brain tumor coupled with the new cancerous nodule in his thyroid has necessitated additional surgeries and medications. He needs to begin his treatment as soon as possible, but as of right now he has difficulties paying his rent, let alone the insurance deductible and premium for the $12,000 monthly injection he needs to stay alive.

To make matters worse for Matthew, his roommate of 3.5 years recently gave a 9-month early move-out notice that his apartment has improperly accepted via their lease terms. Because of this, the apartment management has given him a hold-over notice and is now threatening eviction. This situation is more than stressful for Matthew. Housing is not easy to find in Austin or LA if he needs to move there for treatment, and time is running out.

Matthew wants to work on his current video game project, Civil X. (https://www.civilx.world/) and secure funding but hasn't been able to due to being so sick. By contributing to this GoFundMe, you are directly helping Matthew afford his insurance, pay his hospital bills, meet his deductible for the year, and cover lawyer/eviction fees, as well as keeping his passion alive and continuing his legacy of the joy of play with games.
