For a few days leading up to his diagnosis, my Uncle Matt was having severe stomach pains. Finally, on February 1, 2018, he decided to check into the Emergency Room. They ran a CT scan and found a mass on his colon. He immediately scheduled an appointment to have a colonoscopy and after the test, the doctor told him that there is not only a mass on his colon, but also a few spots on his liver, suggesting that the cancer has already begun to spread. Ever since our family got this news, it has been tough to say the least. It has been an emotional and heartbreaking road already as all we can ask each other and ourselves is "Why??" Unfortunately, my Uncle Matt's journey to better health has only just begun. He will meet with a doctor later this week to learn more about his treatment options and we are all praying for success.
I made this GoFundMe page to hopefully make my Uncle Matt's (and his family's) battle a little less difficult financially. Because my Uncle Matt's wife has Multiple Sclerosis (MS), my Uncle is the household's sole provider. All donations will go toward maintaining bills during lost time at work and medical expenses. Any donation, no matter how small, will go a long way to help my Uncle and his family, and we all want to say thank you in advance. In addition to financial support, the emotional support, prayers, and love from everyone are appreciated immensely.
A few things about my amazing Uncle Matt... He is a young, 57 years old, married to his best friend and the love of his life, Cynthia. He is an incredible father to two kids, Nicole (30) and Katie (23) as well as a loving grandfather to his two grandsons, Nicolas (7) and Thomas (2). He is the youngest of four brothers, who are Phillip, John, and Ed. He is not only an inspiration for his family, but also his friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.
My Uncle Matt is the guy you'll see wearing an AC/DC band t-shirt, head-banging to "Back in Black" in his car while he's stopped at a red light. He's the guy that high-fives the lady working the drive-thru window while he says, "Right on!" like the '90s never ended. My siblings, my cousins, and I, love our very goofy, and sometimes crazy, Uncle Matt, and with our families, we are going to fight this battle together!
