Maryanne's Transplant Fund

For the second time in six months, Maryanne Buteau is faced with shattering news: her liver is failing, a transplant will be necessary.

It was November 2014 when her father, Ernie - a Vietnam veteran - went into the hospital for a scheduled stent procedure. But things began to take a turn for the worse when his doctor proclaimed that he would need to have bypass surgery. Consequently, an existent lung condition worsened - they would not recover.
Over the course of a month, Maryanne sat beside her father, every day; she kept notes on his progress, questioned caregivers, did everything a loving and devoted daughter would do, all the while, suffering her own silent decline. December 8th, Ernie lost his fight.

Fast forward to April 2015. Feeling unusual discomfort, Maryanne reluctantly decided to go to the ER to get everything checked out. All tests came back normal with the exception of her liver enzymes. She was admitted, and after numerous evaluations, she received the devastating news that her liver has reached a stage of cirrhosis that is irreversible. Based on the test results and her age (42), she has likely had the condition that led to her liver failure, for most, if not all of her life. Her father, who had only just received Veterans' Disability, one month prior to entering the hospital, was exposed to Dioxin, or Agent Orange, as it's most commonly called, while serving in Vietnam. Could it be that Maryanne's condition is the result of his exposure, as she was conceived after his military duty? The fact remains that whatever the cause, Maryanne is in serious need of medical care.

She was referred by her doctor, to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville in preparation for her transplant. She is there for a 3-5 week transplant evaluation, following two extended stays in a Tavares hospital. Her husband, Steve, has had to take time off of work, and the bills are already beginning to pile up. Maryanne is insured through Steve's employer, but as we all know, the out-of-pocket expenses build fast and will be unbelievably high for a transplant and all that comes along with it. There will be a lot of extended stays, hours away from home, a lifetime of medications, and ongoing care.

Maryanne and Steve are incredible, strong, loving people who have been hit with a very high obstacle. They would never want to impose or ask for help, so we have created this fundraiser to provide them with the support that they are too humble to ask for themselves. We would be eternally grateful for any and all contributions to help Maryanne and her family. Thank you for your time, thoughts and contributions.
