Please help me fund my competition season on the 2017 Freeride World Tour.
I grew up ski racing in the northeastern United States. My racing career culminated in a year spent skiing with the U.S. Ski Team. Then I decided to follow my brother Matt out to Crested Butte, Colorado and attend Western State College just down the road in Gunnison. My first season in the west was mind blowing. I had never skied terrain or snow like what was available at CB. I have always loved to ski, but after that season I knew that big mountain skiing was what I loved most. So I decided to compete in the Crested Butte Extremes. I won the first day of the competition and fell on the following day. I was hooked. Ski racing had given me a craving for competition and big mountain ski comps filled that need.
During the beginning of my freeride career I was busy earning an undergraduate degree in geology and recently completed my master’s in mineral exploration. With my education complete, 2016 was the first year I could direct all of my attention and focus towards skiing and freeride competitions, which resulted in success. I finished every competition I entered, improved in each competition, and landed on the poduim three times earning first place in the overall Freeride World Qualifier Rankings. I now have a spot on the 2017 Freeride World Tour.
There are five competitions that comprise the Freeride World Tour http://freerideworldtour.com/news/2017-swatch-freeride-world-tour-calendar-unveiled. They take place primarily in Europe, which means I'll be living in Europe for most of the winter. The Mark Mikos Freeride World Tour Fund will help pay for the cost of plane tickets, lift tickets, lodging, and food.
After competing for a season in a few big mountain ski comps, I learned of the Freeride World Tour. It is the premier competition circuit for big mountain skiing and it quickly became a goal of mine to one day compete on the tour. The tour stops are gnarly and the competition is intense. I finally have the opportunity to compete with the best in world on the best venues in the world. Please help me reach my fundraising goal so that I can achieve my dream of becoming the next Freeride World Tour Champion. Thank you.
