Help me get to VONA atBerkeley

Hello friends old and new! You might already know me as an accomplished mentalist and magician. I've written about magic for The Seattle Times.

I'm also a playwright and author. My prose about magic culture opens social justice conversation to a wide audience. I have collaborated with the New York Public Theater and my play has been workshopped at The New York International Fringe Festival and Ars Nova in NYC. I've won literary grants and competitive writing residencies including:

I've just been accepted into the very competitive Voices of our Nations Workshop

From their website:
VONA, the only multi-genre workshop for writers of color in the nation, brings writers of color from the margins to a community where their work is centralized and honored. At VONA, developing writers find a place where they can:
• Explore their craft in an atmosphere of support and understanding
• Exchange ideas and inspirations with established writers
• Gain empowerment to move from VONA to a writer’s life with authority and confidence.

I will be in Jeffrey Renard Allen 's class on Political Writing, workshopping my second book, about how I developed as a magician in New York's male-dominated magic scene. My first book is currently being shopped by my literary agent.

Cost Breakdown:
$1100  tuition (total balance due in MAY or they will give my spot to the waiting list)
$350     ground transport/food one week
$250     round trip flight from Seattle to Berkeley
$49        2.9%  GoFundMe fee

In exchange for your donations, you'll get rewards.  I get asked to teach magic all the time, but I don't have the time for private students. When you donate at least $30, you get a secret magic video that I will not post online. It's for your magician eyes only :-) With a $100 donation, I'll also teach you a mindreading trick plus you get two tickets to my show, anywhere I am performing in the world, redeemable anytime. I'll produce these exclusive magic videos after I return from Berkeley, and send them off to you.

To save money on housing, I have a friend, Michelle, in Berkeley whose couch I shall crash on, and I've already paid the $25 application fee.
