Sloan Needs Your Help: A Sudden Battle for His Life and Our Home
Hi everyone, my name is Nicole, and I'm reaching out with an urgent and heavy heart. My amazing husband, Sloan, a Marine veteran. Needs immediate open heart surgery, and our lives have been completely upended in the blink of an eye.
Just recently, we went to the emergency room thinking Sloan might have blood clots. What followed was a terrifying cascade of events. Doctors quickly found fluid sacs under his lungs, and further tests revealed a severely regurgitating heart valve. We were initially told it would be months before we could see a heart specialist, but we knew we couldn't wait. We desperately called around and found a doctor in the city, 45 minutes away, who could see us the very next day.
Since then, it's been a non-stop blur of tests, long drives, and Sloan's condition tragically worsening. His belly began to swell with fluid, and despite everything, he just wasn't getting better. The breaking point came with a crucial TEE (transesophageal echocardiogram) test. It delivered devastating news: Sloan's main heart valve is failing, and his aorta is severely stretched and damaged from prolonged stress. He's in heart failure and needs open heart surgery immediately.
This all happened so fast, and honestly, we're not ones to ask for help. But we've reached a point where we desperately need your support. The relentless testing, the constant travel back and forth, and now Sloan being admitted to the hospital have taken an immense toll on us, emotionally and financially. I've had to take significant time off work to be by his side, adding even more stress to an already overwhelming situation.
Adding to this nightmare, we've also recently am in the process of losing our home due to a catastrophic error by our bankruptcy lawyer. We were relying on that process to help us stabilize, and instead, it's pushed us to an even more desperate place. This isn't just about medical bills anymore; it's about keeping a roof over our heads and maintaining some semblance of stability for our family during Sloan's recovery.
Sloan is truly one of a kind. He has the biggest heart and would drop everything to help anyone in need. He's dedicated his life to supporting others, and it's incredibly hard for him to be on the receiving end of help. He's a devoted father to our two incredible boys, who are just heartbroken and want their dad home and healthy again.
Any contribution, no matter how small, would be a tremendous help. We have reached out to some of the veteran resource and the only one who came to us and was amazing and we consider family is the combat veteran motorcycle association from Tooele they visited with Sloan and let the boys see there bikes. It would lift some of the overwhelming financial burden of medical bills, travel expenses, lost income, and the immediate need to secure housing, allowing us to focus entirely on Sloan's recovery. He faces a long and challenging road ahead, but we know he's a fighter.
If you're unable to donate, please, we humbly ask for your prayers for Sloan's speedy and complete recovery. Our boys and I are holding onto every bit of hope and faith we have.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can offer.
