I'm raising money for one of my oldest and dearest friends and her eight-year-old daughter.

Mariling and her daughter are seeking asylum and U-visa's as survivors of domestic violence. If they are forced to return to Nicaragua, they would be exposing themselves to the risk of another attack from the man who tried to kill Mariling.

Mariling fled to Texas in 2022 with her daughter and her partner to escape the economic hardship that followed Nicaragua's 2018 social unrest. (You can read more about that here.) Since arriving, she has complied with every step of the immigration process and has not missed a single court date.

A year ago, her daughter's father attacked Mariling with the intention to kill her. He was detained, prosecuted, and deported to Nicaragua. This trauma has caused significant psychological and financial hardship for Mariling and her daughter.

At her most recent court date, she was given one month to find legal representation and file for asylum before a deportation order would be issued. After dozens of calls and emails and four separate consultations, we found a reputable Dallas immigration attorney to take her case. Between the two of us, we have been scraping together the legal fees required to open the case, but we are reaching the end of our resources and need help to cover the $15,500 total cost for this asylum case.

Hace un año, el padre de su hija atacó a Mariling con la intención de matarla. Él fue detenido, procesado y deportado a Nicaragua. Este trauma ha provocado graves dificultades psicológicas y económicas tanto para Mariling como para su hija.

En su audiencia más reciente, le dieron un plazo de un mes para conseguir representación legal y presentar la solicitud de asilo antes de que se emitiera una orden de deportación. Tras decenas de llamadas y correos electrónicos, y cuatro consultas distintas, finalmente encontramos a un abogado de inmigración de confianza en Dallas dispuesto a llevar su caso. Necesitamos ayuda para cubrir el costo total de $15,500 que conlleva este caso de asilo.
