My Medical Missions trip to Liberia
Donation protected
I'm looking forward to going on my first Medical Missions trip with Duluth Gospel Tabernacle (DGT) Liberia Medical Missions. For more detailed information see "duluth.wix.com/medicalmissionsdgt"
DGT has a 95 year relationship with Liberia! Liberia's 14 year civil war ended in 2003 with the loss of at least 250,000 lives & the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. 68% of Liberians live below the poverty line - less than $1 per day. They have a chronic shortage of qualified health workers, a dilapidated health infrastructure & insufficient Gov't funds. Child deaths under 5 yrs old is 235 per 100. Life expectancy is 41 years. There are only 200 doctors in Liberia! Our team consists of Dentists, Doctors and hopefully an Eye Specialist, a retired EMT, and other skilled proffesionals. Along with providing health care we will be giving eye exams andused prescription glasses and sunglasses. Besides the expenses for the trip I am also raising money for medical supplies, bandages, antiseptic wipes, asprin, tylenol, vitamins, adult and childrens, you name it, we need it!
Estimated Costs breakdown: $2000 - airfare; $200 food for 2 weeks depending on where we stay; $100 - transportation; $400 - hotel Subject to change based on how many to a room;$200 for misc supplies (Optical/Dental/Medicines); $100 for shots; $200 for passport (I already have mine so will use the money for more medical supplies! Grand total $3200! Any money donated over that will go to help others meet their expenses and more supplies!
Tentative schedule - leave Duluth Friday night March 2 arrive Liberia March 3rd. Set up 1st clinic Sunday afternoon to open for 1 week then close on Saturday and travel to next location and set up for 4 days. On Thursday tear down the clinic, leave on Friday and be home Sat night March 17!
I am so excited to be a part of this trip! I know it will change the way I see the world forever!
From the bottom of my heart I thank you for the opportunity to represent you as you help support this trip and as internet connections become available, I'll keep you posted with stories and pictures of how your gifts are help heal and comfort others in Liberia, West Africa!
