Manchester Half Marathon in Memory of Alli Gaskin

I am running the Manchester Half Marathon on the 18th May 2025, with some of my lovely friends to raise money for The Christie Charity. We are running in memory of my amazing mum, Alli Gaskin, with the run being the day after her birthday, making it even more special! In true Alli G style, we will be running as minions as there is nothing she loved more than dressing up!!

Mum was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer in September 2024, completely turning our world upside down. We were told she had a year to live, however we were all robbed of that time and so much more. You would never have known how sick Mum was - she remained her bubbly, playful and caring self, even in her final days.

When Mum deteriorated quickly over Christmas, The Christie's Hospital provided us with such comfort and kindness that we can never repay them for. Every single member of staff brought such joy to Mum's final week; caring for her with such dignity, and always with a smile. They made sure Mum had her own separate room, and let Jack and I stay over with her so Mum was never alone. At night when it was difficult for Jack and I to sleep, the nurses sat with us, cried with us and made sure we were supported throughout.

Once we learned how little time we had left, we wanted to get Mum back home with us and her beloved pups - the Christie Team organised her whole discharge within a matter of hours, ensuring we got her home in time to say goodbye, with all the equipment and support we needed. Nothing was too big of an ask, and every single team member went above and beyond to make sure Mum was comfortable and peaceful.

Jack and I cannot put into words how grateful we are for The Christie's Team - there's no amount of money to quantify the difference they made to Mum's last days. However, we would love to raise any money we can to thank them, and hopefully allow them to continue providing the same comfort and outstanding care for other families.
