In the early morning hours of June 15, 2021, someone broke in the front door and window of the Busy Bee Cafe and ransacked the front of house area. Luckily, nothing but some soda was stolen, but the amount of damage done was quite palpable. This is the second time a window has been broken out at the Bee in less than a year. The deductible for the damage is $500 and we plan on using the rest of the money getting mom set up with a good set of security cameras.
As you all know, Covid has been hard on small businesses. Betty (my mom) and Carla (my sister) have been working their butts off to keep things going however they can. A little back story of the Busy Bee: my parents, Gene and Betty, retired and bought the Busy Bee almost 17 years ago. They’ve probably worked more since their retirements than they ever did before and it’s been hard work. My mom has always been able to use the Bee as a platform to love people. Loving people is her thing. She will greet you with a hug and a smile and ask you genuinely how you are doing. If you need help, she will ask you how she can help. She just loves on everyone. We lost dad after a long battle with cancer in 2017. Carla has always been a solid part of the Bee, but stepped in even more to help mom make things happen at the restaurant. They both really pour themselves into what they do.
Mom initially didn’t like the idea of doing something like this... but when I told her how many people love her an are volunteering to help how they can, I know it touched her heart. Thank you for loving my family and caring so much for this special place. Let’s work together to get things back to mostly normal and help my mom and sister feel secure again in what has become their second home. Thank you for all of your support!
