Mai Kou Xiong

The beginning of life had her named Maikou and from there on, she created within herself a being full of miracles that touched others with her smile, wisdom and heart. She opened her heart to welcome all challenges that would fight her along the way. With her eyes trained on the single thought of being the voice for those who couldn't, Maikou became an icon across the world with her battle for equality. But the battle has yet to be won for the war has just started. Among the many challenges given to Maikou, the biggest hurdle was recently handed down with a diagnostic of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The fight will not be an easy one, but it will be done nonetheless and a woman such as Maikou, who has such a strong belief in God and the support from her many good friends and families, will not be alone as she discovers this chapter of her life. She's written each chapter of her life with dignity, strength and hope. This is a chapter that has started from blank pages and as she puts pen to paper to write her story, you are a part that would be included should you choose to walk with her.

Many of you have seen Maikou grace the screen with her popular talk show Xav Paub Xav Pom with HBC. She has interviewed many well known artists, political figures and inspirational speakers with her show. But perhaps what made her was being a pioneer for the Hmong dual language she put together for our community. She has reached out to help serve as point woman on so many boards giving her time and dedication to help others.

Prepared for the journey ahead, Maikou is receiving treatment from the U of M and the Mayo Clinic. But the journey is long and has many detours that cannot be handled alone. With that said, we, the many friends and families of Maikou, humbly put forward this letter to approach you. Many know that cancer is a disease that chooses who it may want and does not consider how young or old you are. It's a time for much needed support, love and care from those who surround each other to come forward and bring forth a peace of mind. If you are reading this, you are an important factor in helping and supporting Maikou and her journey. A word of hope, a hand on the shoulder or a hug will offer Maikou much comfort in this time of her journey. Even if you cannot give, please share this link so that the community, your friends and family can hear and see the journey Maikou is traveling. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your support, hope and kindness. Together, we can overcome the fight for cancer and bring hope to everyone who is walking this path.

Thank you for support our daughter, sister, mom, colleague and friend!
