Mackenzie's PwP Trip to Guatemala
Donation protected
My name is Mackenzie French and I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Southern California. This summer I have been accepted into a competitive 3.5-week program known as Problems without Passports that takes place in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. My group and I will be studying alongside researchers, clinicians and social service providers during our time in the country in order to gain a deep understanding of the health-care issues that have surfaced on a global level.
As many of you know, I am a Pre-Medical student and have been working hard each semester and each summer to better my chances of getting into medical school and to mold myself into a better future physician. The 3.5 weeks I spend in Guatemala will provide me with substantial experience to later succeed in the medical field. I will be gaining valuable clinical experience through vaccination distribution and preventative care and will exit the program with an expanded awareness of health, illness, disease and culture that I can apply as I transition from an observer to a provider. Additionally, there is a research component to the program that will allow me to develop my own ideas and concepts on how to address, and potentially solve, a prevalent health issue found in Central America.
During this trip I will be staying with a Guatemalan family and will be immersed in their culture. I will also be taking rigorous language courses to attempt to perfect my Spanish language skills.
The trip will be taking place this summer between May 21st-June 12th.
Without your generous donations, this trip is simply out of reach for me. I will be receiving a grant that will help to fund a portion of the total cost; however even with this funding, I am still $4,000 shy of the program's cost. Your donations will help cover the remaining cost of flights, housing, and the 3 units of tuition from USC that covers the program fees, transportation and the language school.
All donations will be directly supporting my goals of becoming a physician and are greatly appreciated.
