For 35 years MYC (The Melbourne Youth Chorale) has been educating kids to sing and read music – and its all provided free – with no barriers to participation. No auditions. No fees.
Even the challenges of the COVID-19 and social isolation have not stopped us! Our kids are zooming in for their weekly sing-alongs, rehearsals and musicianship classes. Parents tell us that their kids love their weekly catch up with friends and that choir is the highlight of their week.
At MYC, we believe that every child deserves the gift of music. Every decision we make focusses to make that belief a reality.
Since becoming a free service to the community, MYC’s enrolment numbers have more than doubled and we currently teach 80 kids each week.
It’s no secret that COVID-19 has hugely impacted the economic landscape for arts groups and charities like MYC. MYC has lost 80% of it’s budgeted income this year – but we are determined to keep connecting with our kids, keep them singing and keep them smiling. And that’s where you come in.
With your support to donate and share this campaign with your friends, we can continue to pay our music teachers (who have lost most of their work otherwise) and continue to grow.
How your money will help us:
$5,000 will provide security for our teachers so we can pay them until the end of the year.
$10,000 will fund a paid administrator to relieve the load on our volunteers and provide more effort to future fundraising and marketing.
$20,000 will provide security for us to open the doors in 2021 with secure plans for growth.
And the best part – MYC is a registered charity with DGR-1 and TCC status and will issue tax-deductible receipts for you to claim on your End Of Year returns.
