Stem Cell Therapy to Treat Multiple Sclerosis- Tasha Franks
I am trying to raise money for my sister-in-law, Tasha Franks. Tasha is a high school teacher with a loving husband, Cory, and two beautiful children, Aiden (age 9) and Addison (age 3).
Tasha was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2008. At first she just had some mild numbing in her fingertips that was annoying but manageable, but over the years her condition has steadily gotten worse to the point that she struggles with mobility and has to use aids to be able to walk, among other issues. She is so very strong and has fought to continue to live a “normal” life for herself and her family, but every day her physical challenges become harder and harder to overcome.
She has pursued many treatment options, yet her condition continues to decline. Her family has given sacrificially to ensure that she has the tools that she needs to be able to function somewhat independently, from a wheelchair, walker, leg brace, etc. But all of these aids don’t actually fix the problem.
Tasha has been learning about stem cell therapy to treat her MS. The treatment is a high-dose immunosuppressive therapy and autologous hematopoietic cell transplant (HDIT/HCT) that uses adipose tissue cells. She believes that this therapy would be the best option for her to pursue to help actually reverse the damage caused by the MS and to give her the best quality of life.
Unfortunately, this therapy is extremely expensive, and medical insurance is not providing any help. Tasha has received some funding from the MS Society, but they will not be able to give her any more assistance.
Tasha’s coworkers recently rallied together and organized a local fundraiser at the school for her cause. The response from the community was overwhelming and humbling. They were able to raise a lot of money, but unfortunately it was not enough to fully fund the therapy. She is still lacking about $5,000.
On their own, despite their best efforts, it would take Tasha and Cory years to raise enough money to fund the therapy. But it breaks my heart to see her continue to struggle for years when a cure could be within her reach that could drastically improve her quality of life. Not just for her, but her family as well. I would love to see Tasha get her life back, and sooner the better.
So now I am looking beyond our local community and turning to our extended network for help.
If you feel compelled, please donate. Any amount, large or small, will help Tasha get that much closer to a therapy that could truly change her life for the better.
Thank you for your support!!!!!
