Melissa Swingruber Scholarship Fund

Our hockey community lost one of its most dedicated supporters last week. Melissa (Mel) Swingruber watched her sons, Trey and Sam, play in the capital district throughout youth hockey and for the Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa High School Hockey team; spending countless hours traveling, feeding the boys and their friends, and standing along the boards with her daughter Sara, cheering the team on. Over the past seven years, Mel and her family have been a constant presence for the Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa team, attending over 150 games, supporting team activities, and encouraging her children in playing the sport that they love so much. Players and families who have had the privilege of knowing Mel through hockey can attest to the impact she had on those that met at the rink. In her passing, Mel’s family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made for a scholarship that is being set up in her memory, to be given annually to a hard-working and deserving Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa hockey player. This scholarship will honor Mel, and keep her spirit alive in the hockey community. Thank you for your contribution.

Donations will be expended into an account that the Swingruber family and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa coaches will have access to. Each year these people will sit together to discuss one deserving player on the BHBS hockey team to receive the Melissa Swingruber scholarship. This scholarship will be given to the player at the teams yearly banquet.
