Hello, my name is Marcus LaGuerre. I am currently enrolled at Kestrel Heights High School, in Durham NC as a senior. I am a young man who is intelligent, driven, artistic, and I have a dream.
Before I tell you about my dream, I’m going to tell you a little about me. I hail from the city of Brooklyn in the NYC. My father and my mother are separated but they love me and my siblings very much. My mom has raised us well, and my dad is usually there when we need him. My family is not wealthy, as a matter of fact, we are quite the opposite. Right now, my mom supports us on food stamps and child support checks, since she has had trouble finding a full-time job. We are currently living in a not so good area of Durham, NC.
Through all of the rough circumstances of my life, I always had the will to succeed. I knew that education would be the way to better my life and the lives of my family. In elementary and middle school, I settled for nothing less than a B, maintaining A’s and B’s all eight years. For my high school career I stepped it up from there, I didn’t settle for anything less than an A, maintaining 90’s or better all four years. Last year I was inducted into the National Honors Society (NHS) and this year I am the President of my school's NHS Chapter. My current GPA is a 3.9. I am a soccer, fencing, and track athlete. When I do something I do it to the best of my ability. I give 100% to excel. Thanks to my hard work and the emotional support of my family and others, I was blessed to not only get accepted into my number one choice for college (Eastern Michigan University), but I was also blessed to receive $30, 935 of the $37, 862 a year cost of attendance through grants and scholarships. That just leaves roughly $7,000 for me to come up with to cover the remaining costs.
My dream is to attend Eastern Michigan University and major in Simulation, Animation, and Gaming (SAG). My future goal is to found my own game design company. I will eventually venture into comic book design to create an outlet for my passion of drawing. As my company grows, I will use my influence and financial abilities to fund non-profit organizations that will help to eliminate some of the hurdles in the lives of young people who want to succeed as much as I did.
I'm asking for $10,000 to cover the remaining balance for my room and board and other costs associated with attending college. Please invest in me and my vision, I promise that you won’t regret it.
