Elementary School Trip to NMAAHC
Donation protected
Our ideas about our self-worth and self-identity are formed at an early age. As the racial climate in America becomes more bleak by the day, it is crucial for our children to be engaged in the history of their people in positive, meaningful ways. Our students need to know the breadth, depth and richness of their culture and history.
For the past three years, I have been teaching at an elementary school in west Baltimore. In our neighborhood, rampant poverty, inadequate housing and violent crime are unfortunately a daily part of our students’ reality. But this reality does not have to determine student success. The students I serve are bright, resilient, curious, intelligent and full of potential. Nevertheless, they lack the access to opportunities that are regularly afforded to their more affluent counterparts. A team of dedicated teachers and I seek to empower our children to become creative and intellectual learners of today and socially-responsible leaders of tomorrow.
On September 24, 2016, the Smithsonian opens its doors to The National Museum of African American History and Culture, the only national museum devoted exclusively to the celebration and documentation of African American life, history, and culture. We have been fortunate enough to reserve tickets to visit this historic museum on November 1, 2016.
Now, we need your help! We are raising $1,500 for transportation to Washington D.C. These funds will greatly offset the cost of renting 3 school buses for a day in D.C. Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Help us teach our children that their precious lives matter.
