Help MADE get (re)MADE
(re)MADE
Like so many of our neighbors in Red Hook, we opened our doors on the morning of October 30 to the devastating after effects of Hurricane Sandy. MADE's 5,000 sf office and workshop on the waterfront in the historic piers of Red Hook had been submerged under 5 ½ feet of water. What had been an ideal setting for our architectural design-build studio was now a total loss with much of our shop equipment, computers, library and resources irrevocably ruined in the flood.
Our spirits and our creativity remain intact, and we are committed to surviving this storm and returning to the designing and building we love. MADE is now in the process of being (re)MADE. For the last ten years, we've enjoyed being a part of the emerging creative and artistic community of Red Hook, and we are undertaking the cleanup and rebuilding effort needed to reestablish ourselves and help the community as a whole recover. One of our core beliefs is that good design and good architecture is a collaborative effort, and that motivation has helped us bond together to overcome the enormous challenges of recent weeks. We are proud of all that MADE has contributed to the design community of New York over the past ten years, and we are asking for your help and support in order to keep us going. We need to rebuild our damaged office, repurchase many critical pieces of equipment, and restore the many resources collected over the past decade. All donations of a $100 or more will receive a handcrafted thank you from all of us at MADE that we are designing and building right now! Please be sure to leave contact info so that we can reach you.
We'd also like to send special thanks to the many friends, family and strangers who have volunteered their time, their efforts and their thoughts over the past week and who have spent countless hours assisting us in the cleanup. Your support has inspired us to overcome these challenges and the entire MADE family is sincerely grateful for the community which sustains us.
For those who don't know much about MADE or would like to find out more, you can visit our website to find out a little bit about who we are and what we do. But the best way is to come visit us as we rebuild!
Many thanks,
All of us at MADE
