In September 2023, our lives took an unexpected turn when my beloved wife, Nhu Nguyen, affectionately known as Nina, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. The journey began innocuously with pneumonia, which swiftly evolved into a severe lung infection. Despite a week of antibiotics, Nina's persistent cough and excruciating back pain became unbearable, prompting us to seek urgent care at Kaiser ER.

The first week, we went through countless bloodwork and scans. After 3 days, they broke the news to us that they confirmed it’s lung cancer. This hit us hard and it was as if lighting struck us. It was really hard for any of us to accept this news but we try to remain hopeful and stay positive.

Luckily we have support from friends and family, coming together and helping out in times of needs.. They have been a big help providing looking after our little ones and dropping over food for us everyday.

As Nina's pain intensified, we anxiously awaited the results of her biopsy, including the crucial EGFR test. To alleviate her suffering, her oncologist recommended radiation therapy targeting her back. Two weeks into this treatment, a remarkable transformation occurred—the pain that once ranked at 8-9 on the scale diminished to a more manageable 2-3.

After week 3 in the hospital getting treated for numbers of issues, the best news came back from her biopsy. The EGFR test came back with a positive mutation, offering a glimmer of hope.

Nina is now undergoing treatment with Tagrisso for her Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer, necessitating one pill daily for the foreseeable future. The average cost for 30 Tablet(s), 80mg each, is $19,373.25. Fortunately, our insurance coverage has stepped in, alleviating a fraction of this financial burden.

The reality of the financial burden associated with cancer treatment is daunting, even with insurance coverage. Thus, we humbly ask for your support to cover medical expenses, including treatments and other expenses that we might run in the near future.
