Travis is a 26-year-old who was paralyzed while out surfing in July 2015.  Travis was catching waves at a local California beach when he felt a sharp pain in his lower back.  He left the water and sat on the beach thinking he had just strained a muscle. After sitting for a while and not feeling better he got up to walk to his car and collapsed before reaching his car.  Strangers noticed him and helped him to his car and called for emergency help.  He was taken to the hospital and doctors told Travis he suffered from a spinal cord stroke which resulted in paralysis from his rib cage down.  This is known as Surfer's Myelopathy and is very rare in the medical field.  Travis has spent MANY months in the hospital and rehab facilities where he has had to learn to manage his physical circumstances.  There is hope that he will regain the use of his legs and other capacities but the strength of that hope is unknown to all, including doctors.  Travis lived an active life prior to this tragic occurence and this has been a very difficult transition for him.  His family had to move to a new home in order to accomodate for his disability and the expenses for his care continue to climb.  We are asking our community for support to help Travis and his family manage the on-going obstacles and climbing costs of living as a young paraplegic.  Funds raised will help offset the medical bills, daily nursing needs and help purchase paraplegic equipment such as a stand-up wheelchair and continued physical therapy.  We will forever be grateful!
