Love4Mochi After Vicious Dog Attack

Donation protected
On 08/22/18, my 7.5lb Pomeranian “Mochi” was viciously attacked by an off-leash pit bull while we were walking in our neighborhood, less than 100ft from our home. The dog bolted across the street and pinned Mochi to the ground, inflicting wounds to over 50% of her body surface.  Meanwhile, as I was struggling to pull Mochi from the pit bull’s mouth, the owner just watched, offering no assistance, expressing no remorse or concern and heartlessly walked away after the attack as I was forced to rush Mochi to the veterinary ER.

At Muddy Branch Vet Center, Mochi underwent a major surgery to stitch up the vast amount of lacerations & puncture wounds she incurred. The vet described this attack as the worst she’d ever treated due to her small size and how much of her body was injured.  Mochi’s injuries required over 100 stitches, an overnight hospital stay, a second surgery a week later along with multiple medications and office visits for bandage changes every other day until her wounds are fully healed. She may still need a possible third surgery within the next two weeks.

Disappointingly, Animal Control informed me that this dog/owner has previously received citations in Montgomery County (MD) for a (human) bite incident due to being off-leash that occurred in April and was deemed “Potentially Dangerous”.  I was able to eventually locate and identify the dog/owner two days after the incident and to my dismay, was still uncooperative by denying her involvement and has not been willing to take any responsibility for her dog, while Mochi’s medical bills continue to grow. She has now been cited for the same multiple violations twice - in less than 6 months and the pit bull has been now deemed “Dangerous” and is banned from the City of Gaithersburg, where this recent attack occurred.

Fortunately, Mochi’s life was spared and her resilience has truly been inspiring but she continues to have a long road to recovery ahead of her. I am pursuing legal action against this dog owner however, she already has a judgement against her for $125 fines from the previous bite incident that she has not paid. Frustratingly, this will be an upward battle and timely process, while there is no guarantee if/when I will see immediate relief for Mochi’s vet bills.

Friends & pet family near and far -- this is a time-sensitive fund-raising effort, as medical expenses are accruing quickly and any amount of donation towards Mochi’s recovery would mean the world to us since she truly is a walking miracle.

Please share widely & we thank you for the bottom of our hearts ♥️
