About us:
Music has been our passion since childhood. Although we are both Long Island natives, we, "The Jennifers", met in 2006 while singing together at the Utah Festival Opera. Since then, we have not only become best friends, but we have collaborated extensively as professional opera singers and teachers of voice and piano.
We are teaching artists – musicians who maintain active performing careers while simultaneously nurturing musical development in the children and adults we teach. We have performed to high acclaim on regional and international operatic and concert stages, we maintain active voice and piano studios, and we frequently unite our individual studios for performance opportunities such as master classes, recitals, and youth and adult choirs.
The Dream:
Over the last 15 years, our private studios have attracted more and more students. We have inspired and mentored many young musicians to love music, to develop confidence through their music making, and even to pursue music as a career. We have become PASSIONATE about the teaching process.
As established performers and educators,
we are unique in our area.
We began to realize we had something special to offer the community. There are a very limited number of private in home music schools of QUALITY on Long Island. That got us dreaming – how could we take our passion for music education and the performing arts and make it available to Long Island?
What we did next:
Last Spring, we had the pleasure of completing an Entrepreneurial certificate program at Hofstra University where we developed our business plan and were mentored by wonderful faculty including bankers, lawyers, accountants and marketing experts. We were selected as the first place "winners" for our business plan and so we were convinced we had to move forward with this project!
The Long Island Institute of Music (LIIM):
Our vision for the Long Island Institute of Music is to create a private music school offering a unique, one-on one, and group instruction, in piano, voice and a wide variety of other instruments to students of all ages. We plan to provide “mobile” lessons in students’ homes, a growing trend in the area and a very appealing benefit to our current students and their parents. Our passion is to provide superior musical training that enables students to grow musically, artistically, intellectually and personally. LIIM is dedicated to inspiring and training the musicians of our future with integrity, quality and care. We make music fun, joyful and exciting!
Students will discover a creative outlet at the Long Island Institute of Music and will discover that music is a great addition to a well rounded education and enhances personal development. Students will explore and develop an understanding for, and a love of music. All students will have the opportunity to participate in recitals throughout the year for their families, friends, and community.
The Future:
Our future vision for LIIM is to expand the business by offering additional musical programs such as summer musical theater workshops, chamber music ensembles, general music appreciation classes for children and adults, Mommy/Daddy and Me music classes, and Senior Citizen Music Programs.
Eventually, we want explore the possibility of our own brick and mortar performance and education space when funding is available.
What We Need:
We have already begun the legal process of creating an LLC and it should be finalized within the next few months.
To ensure the success of this exciting endeavor, we respectfully and graciously ask for your financial support. We have created this GOFUNDME campaign to offset our startup costs- which include legal fees, and marketing and advertising fees. Any funds raised above our campaign goal of $20,000 will be immediately used for scholarships for young, talented musicians in need.
We have created a list of very exciting incentives that you might enjoy receiving with your donation to this important project.
