Hey! I’m Laura and since January 2012, I have fallen totally in love with Jesus. I grew up believing in nothing. Not believing in myself, in anyone else, and especially not in God. Through a series of events I finally hit rock bottom and had no desire to live. I always wondered, what is the point? Why try so hard all the time only to fail and fall exhausted? Only to die and rot in the ground-- having no meaning left to my life that I strived for? Why bother?! I decided to call out to God and see if he'd give me a reason...that is if he was even real. Well, he is. He answered me and gave me more than a reason to live because he said I was more than a reason to die. I began studying the (very confusing at the time) Bible that is written over a period of roughly 2,000 years by 40 different authors from three continents, who wrote in three different languages! I have come to realize that these are not just stories people pulled out of the air because "Oh this sounds cool and hopeful!" ...No, these are actual accounts of history. Jesus Christ, born in the most humble of ways, died and rose again to seek and save the lost, and take away all separation between God and man. Obviously this concept takes time to build faith in, but that’s the point. It shouldn’t be easy, and I will be learning about and falling more in love with God until the day I die.
Hi I’m Cassandra. I have been a church going girl basically my whole life but it wasn’t until June 2013 that Jesus totally captured my heart. Since then it has been quite the adventure with Him. I’ve been learning more and more about my identity, and the love that My Savior has for me. He has deepened my relationship to a point where I completely believe my soul is only truly satisfied in Him. With this intimacy between My Lord and I growing, my passion for others to experience this love has also grown. Missions, is something that has been on my heart for a while now I just didn’t know when and where to go. Laura and I started this journey together wanting to be open to wherever God led us to go, but at first I was rooting for anywhere outside of the country. The funny thing is though, if I was going to be willing to go WHEREVER He was calling me, I could not exclude the country I live in. As I was praying about everything, it became very clear that He was calling me exactly where I didn’t want to go, or stay I should say. As I took the step of obedience to apply for San Diego, He most certainly changed my perspective on staying in the U.S.; I love that this is where I am called to go for my very first missions’ trip.
San Diego Adventure Cru Summer Mission: Why?
Matthew 28:18-20 says, “Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”
First of all, teaching to obey commands is teaching to love. Jesus said in John 15:12 “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.” Simple as that.
Second of all, when reading “make disciples of all nations” many of us are ready to buy a plane ticket across the world and serve, as Cassandra mentioned. This is awesome, and we will be doing this one-day, BUT the United States is a nation too! Let us not forget that our neighborhood, schools, jobs, states are so important! Just because the U.S. seems to be well off does not mean there is still not hunger here, homelessness, abuse, depression, hatred, disease, and NEED here. Before we go off to other countries, we feel so strongly the Lord has called us to serve right here in this country. LOVE right here in the United States where there is plenty of need. That is why Cassandra and I have applied to serve in San Diego this summer, and why we ask for your help in order to go, love, and support this need. We will be serving people on the beaches, campuses, and homeless shelters from MAY 30- JUNE 8 with 29 other college students with the same vision.
Cassandra and I individually need about $1400 to cover all expenses, which adds up to $2,800 total. Go Fund Me allows all proceeds to go directly to the mission, and does not take any cut of it. Please feel free to contact Cassandra and I individually if you have any questions or would like to meet up. Thank you so much for your prayers and support financially in this! We love you!!!!
Matthew 25:40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
