Our sweet Olivia had her first noticeable possible seizure activity on May 19th 2025 at just 5 months old. Originally the ER, over the phone Riley consultation, and her pediatrician believed they were infantile spasms. As of July 10, 2025 she has officially been diagnosed with infant focal epilepsy after an EEG. She is beginning seizure medication immediately. She was also confirmed to have developmental delays and poor motor coordination for her age as well as low muscle tone. They want her to start in home physical and occupational therapy as soon as possible. She also had her back soft spot close early while her front soft spot is thin and her forehead is protruding.
Our next steps are a MRI and CT scan to establish what could be causing her seizures as well as if surgery is necessary.
All of is is much more than we expected and a completely different diagnosis than wr thought would happen. Her neurologist stated due to the type of seizures she has and will have that they do not recommend any seizure monitoring equipment as those devices focus on big or more repetitive movements and her seizure type is more subtle and almost impossible to register on home devices.
Our focus now is her care. We will have much more medical expenses and unpaid time of of work due to her needs and a lot more time than expected if she has to have the surgery they discussed with us.
If you have been following our journey, thank you so much and I will continue to update or go fund me and social media as things develop.
