The Lindley's fire recovery fund

Donation protected
My sister Betsy and her family escaped a house fire on February 7th with just the clothes on their backs. Their house, just outside of Madison, in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, sustained severe damage and will need to be practically gutted and rebuilt in order to be inhabited again. The insurance is covering the vast majority of the rebuild and replacement of lost contents, however, there are some things they will not cover. This is why my sister needs your help.

Betsy, her husband Dave and son Adam have received an enormous amount of support from The American Red Cross, Good Shepard Episcopal Church of Sun Prairie, friends, family and co-workers. Even as we all continue to help through donations, leveraging connections and calling in favors, there are things that will require money to fix. Money they don't have right now.

Most of the numbers that follow are estimates at this point and the true figures will most likely not be known until the moment they are due. Since we are basically guesstimating the amount, so that funds are available when needed, we have decided to make sure all donations go to a good cause. Any donations received in excess of actual funds needed will be donated to the American Red Cross, so they can help other families like they helped my sister.

Here is the breakdown of what we are estimating will be needed. All estimates are a best guess at the "worst case scenario" cost.

New roof: $26,000. The roof was in need of repair prior to the fire and the insurance determined there is no fire damage to it. Because of the massive reconstruction being done, the entire house will need to pass inspection before it is deemed inhabitable. The house is over 100 years old and the roof will need complete replacement, wood and all. This is a high estimate and we are working with connections to see if it can be done for less, but we want to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Security deposits for temporary housing & furnishing: $4,000. This will be needed soon. The insurance company will cover six months rent, but deposits for the rental and deposits for rentable furnishings (if the housing comes unfurnished) will be Betsy's responsibility. Any deposit amounts returned after the house is completed, if not needed for other rebuild costs, will be donated to The American Red Cross.

Insurance deductible: $1,115. This will be needed soon.

We have rounded up the total to $32,000 as the high figure and our best guess of what will be needed. Any funds that do not go to the process of getting Betsy and her family back into their home will be donated directly to The American Red Cross.

Any amount you can give is appreciated and I personally guarantee, one way or another, all funds will go to the cause of helping people recover from catastrophe. If you are unable to donate, please share with others and boost the signal.

Thank you for reading and for your support.
