Lane’s COVID Story
During the early morning of April 11 Lane was cold to the touch, disoriented, struggling to breathe and her oxygen saturation was below 50%. We rushed to the emergency room where she was immediately placed on ventilatory support and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The doctors were astonished she was still conscious based on the lack of oxygen in her body and severity of her condition. Over the next week she was given steroids, antiviral medication and convalescent plasma COVID antibodies therapy. Unfortunately, her body did not respond to the treatments and she was given an experimental anti-inflammatory drug in hopes of slowing the cytokine storm occurring within her body which was rapidly damaging her lung tissue and diminishing her respiratory function.
Over the next 2 weeks Lane's condition remained critical and she continued to require ventilatory support just to breathe. As her respiratory function was making progress, the lung most damaged by the COVID infection collapsed. She required surgery to insert a chest tube in hopes of re-inflating her lung. Over the next 2 days, Lane's lung re-collapsed twice. The decision was made to insert a second chest tube in another location. Lane is still in the ICU more than 5 weeks after she was admitted, with 2 chest tubes in her body and fighting to recover one day at a time.
As many of you know, Lane is the sweetest, most caring, selfless and giving person you will ever meet. She is the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, big sister, aunt, cousin, granddaughter, niece and friend. Lane is the light of my life and I know she has a special place in many of your hearts and lives as well.
This has been an extremely trying time for our family, not only emotionally, physically and mentally, but financially as well. Lane is the absolute last person to ask for help from others, but with months of recovery, rehabilitation and loss of income on the horizon, our family is graciously asking that you support our GoFundMe by making a donation and sharing this message with your family, friends and network.
