Lieutenant Raul "JR" Ruiz passed away unexpectedly while at the Travis County State Jail in Austin, Texas. Coworkers and friends rushed to his side and began life saving measures to no avail. JR completed his End of Watch on January 8, 2020.
JR began serving the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Officer while assigned at the Lynaugh Unit in Ft. Stockton, Texas in September of 2004. He would then transfer to the Travis County State Jail in 2006, where he would later promote to the rank of Sergeant, and then Lieutenant of Correctional Officers.
Over a 15 year career with TDCJ, JR forged many lasting friendships with his coworkers, peers, and supervisors, and was well respected by everybody throughout the agency. Many of these years as a Correctional Officer was spent working side by side with his brother Eric Ruiz, who is now a Major of Correctional Officers at the Torres Unit in Hondo, Texas. In an effort to show support not only to JR’s memory, but to assist his family with their expenses that have been incurred throughout this traumatic time in their lives. Any donation is appreciated.
JR was full of life and always had a smile on his face. But his love for music was beyond anything else, and he never turned down a chance to go see a live concert with his friends. JR also shared a passion for cooking, and loved to share different recipes with everybody he came in contact with. And on any given day away from his job, you were almost guaranteed to find JR sporting a New York Yankees baseball cap.
No donation is too small and every little bit counts. So please contribute what you can afford, and just know that whatever is dedicated, it will most definitely make a difference to JR's family as they try to move forward. Thank you for your love and for your overwhelming support.
The Thin Grey Line ~ For my brothers, with all that I have, until my last breath.
