The vision of "Liberation through Education" is to be a driving force in liberating under-privileged communities in India by promoting primary education. We believe that every child deserves an equal opportunity to make an impact, whether it be big or small, in their community. If we provide the tools necessary for these children to receive a proper education and teach them methods of combating poverty, we hope to show them that there is more to the world than what they witness every day. Thus, we ultimately hope to liberate them from their hardships through education.
SNDP Lower Primary School is located in Ottasekharamangalam Panchayat of the Trivandrum district in Kerala, India. These students lack some of the basic school needs such as: stationary items, uniforms, umbrellas, and backpacks. Of the school's 128 students, 40% of the students come from families who live on an average household income of approximately $150 a month. Despite many day to day challenges, these students go to school every day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn and engage with their teachers and friends.
"Liberation through Education" has partnered with multiple schools in the valley to conduct dodge ball competitions, carwashes, restaurants partnerships, etc. to help raise funds. Additionally, the Rotary Club of Scottsdale is supporting this initiative and has been of great help.
This summer, I along with two of my peers (Molly Opheim and Kassidy Gardner) will be heading to SNDP school to hand deliver backpacks, umbrellas, uniforms, stationary items to the students, as well as, to provide the teachers and staff with four laptops and a printer that will be purchased from the funds raised. During our time there, we would also be teaching the students new materials and engaging in some community development activities. I am thrilled to say that we have the support of such wonderful communities filled with students, families, teachers, and Rotarians with their hearts in the right place, working passionately to help us reach our final goal of $6,000. Lives will be touched and changed this summer, and with the amount of support we have seen thus far, I have no doubt in my mind that we will be heading to India this summer, ready to see the smiles of these most deserving children.
Please join us in our efforts to help reach this goal. No donations will go unnoticed and every donation counts!
