My name is Molly Campbell and I am a Special Education Coordinator at Citizens of the World Charter School in Williamsburg.
At Citizens of the World we are lucky enough to have a very diverse student body and that includes children who have mobility needs.
One of the children who has mobility needs at my school is London. London came to us this year as a kindergarten student and she is one of the kindest, sweetest and suprisingly funny and insightful students I have ever had the joy to work with.
London has the diagnosis of cerebral palsy and requires a walker and a stroller to move thoughout the school. She uses the walker in the halls during the day but requires a stroller to move thoughout the entire school and because she can become very tired during the day. She also uses the stroller outside of the school in her community.
London's current stroller is very nice but she is going to outgrow it by the end of the school year. Her mother and I are looking for a stroller that has the potential to accommodate her for the next 1-3 years as necessary. Therefore, we want a stroller that will be big enough and sturdy enough to last. The stroller that we would like to order is definitely the best and longest-term solution (see link to stroller at http://www.rehabmart.com/product/alvema-silver-pixi-positioning-chair-40025.html) but unfortunately it is too expensive for us to buy outright and London's insurance will not cover it. I am looking to raise $2000 to cover the costs of the stroller (I would like to order the large size so that she has room to grow) plus accessories such as a seat belt and the costs of shipping.
We are reaching out to friends, family, colleagues, our communities and anyone who is interested in helping to support the dreams and growth of a bright child who has so much potential.
