Let's support Karen with her surgery!

Our dear friend Karen is a kind and caring person, always ready to help others. All of us who've met her know for certain that we can rely on her at any time and situation. Today, she is the one who needs our help.

A year ago, she was diagnosed with six uterine fibroids (benign tumors) that have grown significantly in recent months, causing anemia, severe pain, and other health issues that affect her daily life and continue to worsen over time. The medical direction is clear: she needs surgery as soon as possible.

The procedure, an “Abdominal Myomectomy,” is complex and costly due to the size and location of the fibroids. Despite her efforts, the national health system in Portugal, where Karen lives and works, has been unable to treat her due to a shortage of specialists in the field. Since her health insurance does not cover the surgery with the private sector, her most viable option financially is to travel to Colombia, where she can get the necessary treatment and have the support of her family throughout the process. However, this still represents a significant financial challenge due to the costs of surgery, paperwork, and travel.

This is why we are reaching out to you: friends, family, and anyone who feels moved to support her on this journey. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Even sharing this initiative is a valuable way to help.

A nossa querida amiga Karen é uma pessoa amável, afetuosa e sempre disposta a ajudar os outros. Quem a conhece sabe que pode contar com ela em qualquer momento e circunstância. Hoje, é ela quem precisa de nós.

Há um ano, foram-lhe diagnosticados seis miomas uterinos (tumores benignos) que cresceram significativamente em poucos meses, causando-lhe anemia, dores intensas e outros problemas de saúde que afetam o seu dia a dia e pioram com o tempo. A recomendação médica é clara: precisa de uma cirurgia com urgência.

O procedimento, uma “Miomectomia por laparotomia”, é complexo e dispendioso devido ao tamanho e à localização dos miomas. Apesar dos seus esforços, o Serviço Nacional de Saúde de Portugal, onde a Karen vive e trabalha, não conseguiu atendê-la devido à falta de especialistas na área. Como o seu seguro de saúde não cobre a cirurgia no setor privado, a opção mais viável em termos económicos é viajar para a Colômbia, onde poderá realizar a intervenção necessária e estar acompanhada pela sua família ao longo do processo. No entanto, isto ainda representa um grande desafio financeiro, devido aos custos da cirurgia, burocracias e deslocação.
