We, at the Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) Choir, through our cultural resistance and perseverance, have rehearsed and put on 4 major high caliber productions during the past 2 immensely challenging years, providing music, beauty, and hope to our fellow Lebanese people. Through our performances and initiatives, we have been able to help our Lebanese community by raising funds for several charities and NGOs, something we are no longer able to do because of the exacerbated financial struggle we ourselves are facing as a Choir.
Today, though the choir members themselves are volunteers, the costs and charges of concert production are quite significant and have become more and more difficult to accrue due to inflation and incrementally constricting circumstances. This is why we need your support now, more than ever!
Founded in 2015, the USJ Choir now assembles over 60 singers from different faiths, nationalities, and backgrounds – the true representation of the tolerant, inclusive, and diverse Lebanon. In a few short years, the choir has performed a wide and varied repertoire and has, in record time, gained its place amongst the leading choirs in the Middle East. In spite of the painful and challenging circumstances the pandemic and national crises have placed us under since October 2019, and despite all the obstacles the Choir faces with a female conductor in a man’s world, the USJ has remained committed to its predominant goal of glorifying music and beauty, while it continues providing comfort in times of crises as well as inspiration in times of apathy.
Singing for us is more than just performing. We sing because it is what takes us from surviving to truly living. Join our cultural resistance and be a part of keeping alive one of the most fundamental pillars that makes Lebanon the beautiful country we continue to dream of.
