Help Mama Hippo Get the Love and Care She Needs

Mama Hippo has come all the way to Canada from Kuwait to find her happily ever after!!! She has never known love and it was written all over her face. She was continuously used to breed puppies by her previous owner and when Mama got too old, she was thrown out on the street. Mama has been let down all her life…until now!

Cue Taylor Rubin - Mama Hippo's new mama! Taylor moved to Montréal to complete her Masters degree in August 2020-smack dab in the middle of covid. Moving to a new city with little in the way of friends or family, isolated because of covid restrictions, Taylor used a Facebook group to reach out to fellow Montrealers to seek some canine therapy.

Taylor connected with our founder, Simone, just as she was starting The Canine Club, a doggy daycare in Montreal. After two years with The Canine Club, Taylor was finally ready to adopt a doggy to call her own - cue Mama Hippo!

Mama Hippo was Taylor’s dream dog, but she came with some surprises. Taylor was told Po was about 6 years old and had no health issues...Upon Po’s arrival it was painfully obvious that Mama Hippo was much older than 6 years old (she's ~10 according to her vet!) and clearly had several health issues that we now know include: rotting teeth, fractured teeth, hip dysplasia, arthritis, a previously fractured hip, unidentifiable thyroid issues, and a pellet bullet still lodged at the base of her spine.
Despite her adorable lumpy potato body and health complications, Taylor has been unwaveringly loyal and committed to giving this cutie patootie the best new life she can.
Unfortunately this comes with extensive vet bills to ensure Mama Hippo isn’t experiencing pain or discomfort during her golden years.

Mama Hippo’s amazing vets Dr. Lissa Altschuler and Dr. Peter Gomberg informed Taylor that Mama needs daily supplements and pain killers for her liver health and ongoing treatment for her arthritis. Po is on prescription food since she has stomach issues. Po is also in need of immediate dentistry and possibly hip surgery to extract the bullet and correct her Charlie Chaplin waddle. After extensive blood, urine, fecal tests and X-rays, the bills have already started to pile up.
Taylor’s deep love for Mama Hippo and care for all rescue dogs means that despite these upcoming expenses, she believes every dog deserves a chance at a good life and she needs our help.

Taylor is one of the most caring and compassionate people - towards animals and people alike. She is always checking in to make sure the people around her feel loved, appreciated and supported, and she is equally as caring with the animals around her.
Please lend a paw and help Mama Hippo get the care she needs!
