Dear Community,
We are gathering funds to help an intelligent, compassionate, responsible and bold young lady reach her dreams.
Who are we?
Joe and Kim Miller, long-time Santa Barbara residents. Some of you know us as Kim the school teacher, or Joe from Canticle Choir, the window covering trade, KCSB, or arts writer for the Santa Barbara Independent...
Who we're raising money for...
Rose is a Kenyan student studying in California with the goal of graduating from medical school. Here on an F-1 Student Visa, Rose is seeking legal asylum to protect her from religious persecution were she to return to her native Kenya. As you may know, Christians are violently targeted by the terrorist group Al-Shabab.
Here are some sad examples from the news:
Garissa College attack
Westgate Mall attack
As Gabrielle Lynch expressed in an article for the Daily Nation,
"Following Kenya’s military invasion of Somalia in October 2011, Al-Shabaab responded with an escalation of attacks on Kenyan soil.
"Initially, these were largely concentrated in Nairobi and at the Coast. However, last year, most attacks occurred in the north.
"This included the Garissa attack in April, when armed gunmen killed 148 students at a Garissa University College campus; the July attack on quarry workers in Mandera, when 14 people were killed; and a November bus attack, when 28 non-Muslim passengers travelling to Nairobi were singled out and executed."

Legal status of "Asylee" is very difficult to obtain on one's own. Fortunately, with legal help, Rose's prospects look very bright. This is where YOU come in. Your contribution will equip Rose with the key for unlocking the legal tangle, her safety and her future.
How the money will be used:
Legal fees associated with asylum application. Surplus funds will go towards medical education.
When funds are needed:
By June 1st, 2016
Why this means so much to us:
We have known Rose for six years, and have been duly impressed with her native dignity, intelligence, and compassion for others. She is one of our Very Favorite People!
After Rose completes medical school, she plans to use her knowledge and skills to serve people in the States and overseas.
Thank you!
Rose is destined for a great and important future. Your investment in her is an investment in all of us! Thank you for aiding this Lovely Soul with her inspired dreams of service.
Sincerely,
Kim and Joe Miller
