Legacy.com COVID-19 Relief Fund

Donation protected
The current coronavirus health crisis impacts us all. That’s why Legacy.com has partnered with GoFundMe and GoFundMe.Org to help raise money for COVID-19 relief. Donations will directly support individuals affected by the virus, as well as the organizations working to keep people safe, find a cure, or support their communities.

Donations made during this campaign will be managed by GoFundMe.Org and distributed to verified GoFundMe campaigns and to organizations helping those affected by COVID-19.

We may be isolated from one another right now, but we will get through this together.

Bringing the world together to honor and celebrate people from all walks of life, Legacy.com is where life stories live on.

GoFundMe.Org, an independent, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has partnered with GoFundMe to deliver tax-deductible donations to support those in need.  Your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Updates from GoFundMe.Org about funds disbursement will be added below:

We’ve made a first round of micro-grants benefitting:

- a Boston food truck offering free, contactless meal deliveries to those in need
- an Italian hospital struggling in its efforts to provide medical care
- an organization in Canada providing food for the elderly
- a UK drive to donate your commuter fare to a financial aid charity
- and others

We are also proud to share that we have selected recipients of two larger grants to organizations that are providing global and US-based relief during these uncertain times: United Way Worldwide and Feeding America

United Way Worldwide
United Way is helping communities affected by COVID-19 all over the world. In Japan, United Way (through its partner, the Central Community Chest of Japan) aids families during mandatory school closures by providing meals, learning groups, stocked food banks, and childcare for single-parent households. In Korea, United Way and the Community Chest of Korea are supporting healthcare workers on the front line, low-income households, and disinfecting communal facilities and public areas.

In the United States, United Way and the 211 network, the go-to information resource in times of crisis, have mobilized. Every year, 211 call specialists answer over 12 million requests by phone and chat to connect people with food, housing, utility, health care resources and more. Right now, some 211 call centers are handling as much as 300% their normal call volume. State public health officials have activated 24 statewide 211 operations to help the public get accurate information, and we expect more to activate in the coming days. Based on current call volume, 211 could field as many as 27 million calls over the next six months.

With the grant from GoFundMe.Org and donors like you, United Way is able to assist communities and people struggling in the face of the virus and lost wages. More details here: unitedway.org/recovery/covid19

Feeding America
Our second organization grant goes to Feeding America, who established a COVID-19 Response Fund to support families and communities impacted by the pandemic. Households already facing hunger may be more susceptible to the virus due to a number of factors, like compromised immune systems, lack of information on prevention, and inadequate healthcare. Food banks are struggling to meet the increasing demand, as school closures, job disruptions, and lack of paid sick leave raise questions on how to provide food for the table. Thanks to GoFundMe.org’s grant, Feeding America is able to provide more meals to those in need. Your donations are helping further their mission of serving the most vulnerable members of the community, from neighborhoods near and far. Future Grants to Fundraisers and Organizations
We are far from being done. GoFundMe.Org intends to issue more grants in the coming weeks and as long as donations continue to come in.

To be considered for a grant, please go to www.gofundme.com/sign-up and create a fundraiser explaining your situation. In the fundraiser story, please explain how COVID-19 has affected you or your community, and what the donations will be used for. If you have already set up a fundraiser, please be sure it includes a relevant keyword like “coronavirus” or “COVID.”

More updates to follow! Thank you again for your support.
