South Plainfield/Joliet House Fire
Donation protected
The Leffler Family suffered a catastrophic house fire on March 20th, 2015 in Theodore Crossings subdivision in Joliet, IL. near Plainfield, IL. All but one of us was in the home at the time of the fire, my adult daughter was sleeping in her bed upstairs where you see the fire damage by the roofline, my other two grandchildren were in the same room playing video games, the rest of my family were in the kitchen playing a game enjoying some family time just below my daughters room without even knowing that the house was on fire. One might ask, how can that be? Well the winds were strong and blowing from the south, the fire, which the cause has not been determined, was on the northwest side of the house, and the smoke and flames were only visible from outside the house. Thankfully, a neighbor seen the fire, I used to be a firefighter, so I went into delgation mode, I sent my duaghters boyfiend upstairs to get everyone to safety, 911 had alraedy been called, so I went outside and turned my garden hose on to try and extinguish the blaze, which was out of control, but I was persistant, and stayed there until help arrived. The fire was faught from the exterior on the north and west side as well as through the attic where the Fire dept cut a 4 x 4 hole to ventilate and contain the fire, then other fire crews went up the stairs through the interior of the home, so needless to say, what the fire did not damage, the smoke and water destroyed the rest. The Fire Dept opened all the widows and doors after the fire to try and ventilate the home from the smoke damage, but it was too late. The firefighters on the scene said that if the fire had gone just a few more minutes without being noticed by our neighbor, the fire would have caused injury of death.
The fire destroyed pretty much everything in our home, and we left with the clothes on our backs. We are very thankful for all the clothing and toy donations, gift cards, dinners, fund raisers and more. This is such a wonderful community, complete strangers have come together to help our family.
My wife Donna & I shared a home with our two adult daughters, Becky and Abby, and our three grandchildren, Boys (ages 5 and 6) One girl (age 3) and our 9 month old puppy.
We have homeowners insurance, but unfortunately, it did not cover the contents
We are currently unable to live in the house, and are living out of a hotel, so any donation in any amout on this fund me page would be great, if you choose to donate other items, please arrange a time when the family can greet you, receive the items, and thank you. Please see below, and Thank You for taking the time to read about us.
